An overdraft facility is basically a short-term safety net tied to your business current account. It lets you withdraw more money than you have (up to a pre-approved limit) to cover temporary cash flow gaps like paying salaries, suppliers, or unexpected bills when payments are delayed. You only pay interest on what you actually use (not the full limit), and it’s flexible: draw when needed, repay as cash comes in. Perfect for fluctuating or seasonal needs, but interest rates are usually higher.

A term loan, on the other hand, is a fixed lump sum you borrow upfront for longer-term stuff like buying equipment, expanding your shop, renovating, or big inventory purchases. You repay it in regular installments (EMIs) over a set period (often 1–7 years) with predictable payments. Interest is on the full amount, but rates are often lower than overdrafts, and it’s great for planned growth or investments that generate revenue over time.

Overdraft = quick, flexible fix for short-term cash crunches. Term loan = structured funding for bigger, longer-term goals.

    6. Invest consistently even small amounts grow over time.

Basically, control comes from knowing your cash, planning, and choosing the right investment based on your goals.

    Here’s the honest truth,

It’s not “stocks vs business.” It’s about who you are, your skills, and your timing.

The Facebook post isn’t completely wrong but it’s one-sided.

    With ₦1m in stocks

Growth is slower but more predictable.

1: You don’t need business experience.

2: Lower stress and lower risk of losing everything.

3: Good for people building wealth gradually.

    With ₦1m in a business

1: Returns can be higher but not guaranteed.

2: Requires skill, consistency, and market understanding.

3: Many businesses don’t reach steady profit quickly.

4: Higher reward, but also higher failure risk.

The example comparing ₦12m business profit vs stock returns assumes the business works perfectly real life is rarely that smooth.

    The real truth is,

Stock investing isn’t lazy, and business isn’t automatically smarter.

Business builds active income (you work for it).  Stocks build passive wealth (money works for you).

Most financially stable people eventually do both,
build income through business or career
invest profits into stocks for long-term wealth.

    This is the simple rule,
If you have skills and a tested business idea → business first.
If you want steady long-term growth while learning → start investing.

It’s less about intelligence and more about stage of life and risk tolerance.

ETFs are not all the same, and you’re not really investing in one company  you’re investing in a basket of assets managed by an investment firm.

So to know if an ETF is strong, check who manages it and what it tracks.

On platforms Nigerians use like Bamboo, strong ETFs usually come from big global managers like Vanguard, BlackRock (iShares ETFs), and State Street Global Advisors. These firms are large and regulated.

    ETFs also serve different purposes:

Some track the whole market (best for beginners).

    Some focus on tech only.

    Some track dividends or gold.

Start with a broad market ETF (one tracking many companies), check the manager, and avoid complicated niche ETFs at the beginning.

ETFs differ by what they invest in choose simple, diversified ones first.

People struggle financially even with steady income mostly because income alone doesn’t create stability money management does.

    Main reasons:

    Lifestyle increases as salary increases.

No clear plan for how money should be shared (save, spend, invest).

Too many fixed expenses and debts.

No emergency savings, so small problems become big financial setbacks.

Social and family responsibilities eating into income.

    Is it income or habits?
Usually planning and spending habits, not just income level. Some high earners still struggle because money has no structure.

    Simple habits that help:

1: Save first immediately salary comes in.

2: Separate needs, savings, and wants.

3: Avoid upgrading lifestyle too quickly.

4: Build an emergency fund gradually.

5: Track where your money goes monthly.

You don’t start earning the coupon from the day you subscribed it starts from the bond’s issue date.

    Here’s how it works,

    • FGN Savings Bonds are usually issued a few days after the offer closes (not on your subscription date).
    • Coupon payments come every 3 months from the issue date, not from when you paid.

    For your case

You subscribed January 13, 2026 (January offer).

The bond’s issue date was around late January 2026 (typically the 3rd business day after offer close).

So your payments follow this pattern,

    • 1st coupon: around April 2026
    • 2nd coupon: July 2026
    • 3rd coupon: October 2026
    • 4th coupon: January 2027

    How to calculate it yourself

    1. Find the Issue Date of that month’s FGN Savings Bond.
    2. Add 3 months repeatedly.
    3. Those dates are your coupon payment periods.

So you didn’t miss anything March was too early. Your first payment should come around April.
