    1. Commercial paper is an unsecured short-term debt instrument issued by corporations (companies) to raise funds to meet immediate working capital needs or payroll.

    2. Reasons commercial paper is preferred over bank loans:

    * Commercial paper interest rates are lower than bank loans. When companies issue commercial paper, it’s an avenue to borrow money from investors. The interest they will pay investors is lower than the interest they will pay if that money is borrowed from the bank.

    * Commercial paper is issued within few days, compared to the longer approval and documentation processes required for bank loans.

    * No collateral is needed to issue a commercial paper.

Commercial paper being an unsecured short-term debt instrument, issuers are not required to pledge assets, allowing them to keep assets free for other purposes, unlike bank loans which require a collateral.

Can I Use the Same CHN Across Different Stock Brokers in Nigeria?

Added an answer on March 22, 2026 at 9:59 pm

You can use your previous CHN in another broker app, but you must ensure that your details in the previous CHN matches the current one. If the details do not correspond, you might end up generating another CHN.

    2. Liquidity status: Liquidity is the ability of a stock to be bought and sold quickly and fairly. There are stocks of high liquidity, this entails buying and selling fairly with ease, while there are stocks of low liquidity, this entails the  difficulty in buying fairly, most especially the inability to sell at a good price with ease.

    3. Total debt v Net debt: This shows the financial health of a company.  A company whose net debt is greater than its total debt is at a financial risk.

Companies with earnings can still suffer price stagnation due to the following reasons:

    1. Overvaluation (de-rating): A company which has been overvalued might take some time for it’s price to meet its valuation. If the market perceives that the companies performance does not meet it’s high valuation, stock price might drop or stay stagnant, despite it’s earnings.

    2. Earnings might look high due to one time events, such as selling an asset or tax benefits, rather than growing operational sales.

A company which has strong historical profits but no future growth prospects will likely experience price stagnation.

Also, the best time to buy stocks is during recession, e.g economy breakdown. Stocks are best bought when it is dropping.

It is imperative to study the support and resistance level of stocks. The support level is the price a stock will drop to then buyers will begin to dominate the market, that is the best time to buy,  while the resistance level is the price the stock will rise to before sellers dominate the market by selling off shares, except when there is a breakthrough.

The support and resistance level can guide you in knowing when to buy and sell, it is advisable to combine it with other technical analysis tools.
