The stock market is simply a place where people buy and sell parts of companies.
Let me explain it with a simple story using a simple story just like Iking Ferry.
Imagine your Mama Ngozi sells tomatoes in the market. She has been doing the business well, but she needs more money to expand her business so she can buy more tomatoes and make more profit.
Instead of borrowing from the bank, she decides to divide her business into small parts and sell those parts to other people in the village. Anyone who buys a part now owns a small share of her tomato business.
If the business makes profit, those people will also benefit.
Now imagine many people in the village are buying and selling those small parts of her business. Some people are buying because they believe the business will grow, while others are selling because they need money or they have made profit already.
That place where people are buying and selling those parts is what we call the stock market.
So in simple English:
The stock market is where people buy and sell ownership in businesses.
And when you buy a stock, you are not just buying paper, you are becoming a part owner of a real business, just like owning a small share of Mama Ngozi tomato business.

See lessThink of it like planting a seed. You don’t eat the seed immediately. You put it in the ground, take care of it, and after some time it grows into something bigger that gives you more value.
Now let’s break it down in a real life way.
Imagine this
You have ₦10,000.
Option one
You spend everything on snacks, data, and small small enjoyment. After a few days, the money is gone. No return.
Option two
You use that ₦10,000 to buy something that can bring you more money.
That second option is investing.
Here is a simple step by step example
Step 1
You save up ₦10,000 and decide not to spend it on unnecessary things.
Step 2
You look for a small opportunity. For example, you buy bottled drinks or pure water in bulk.
Step 3
You sell those drinks in your area, school, or at a small roadside spot.
Step 4
You make profit. Let’s say your ₦10,000 becomes ₦13,000.
Step 5
Instead of eating the profit immediately, you reinvest. Now you use the ₦13,000 to buy more goods.
Step 6
Over time, your money keeps growing because you keep putting it back into something productive.
That is investing in its simplest form.
Another quick example
Let’s say you learn a skill like video editing.
You spend time and maybe a little money on data and learning.
That is also an investment, but this time you are investing in yourself.
Later, someone pays you ₦20,000 to edit a video.
The small time and effort you invested earlier is now bringing you money.
So investing is not only about money. It can be time, effort, or knowledge that you put in now to get bigger rewards later.
The main idea is this
Don’t just spend everything you get.
Use some of it to create something that will pay you back.
That mindset is what separates people who stay broke from people who gradually build wealth.

Diversification simply means spreading your money across different companies by purchasing units of their shares instead of buying a huge chunk of one company’s share. However, diversification is proportional to the amount you’re starting with.It is good but that’s when you are not starting like some of us that could only risk #5,000 for our first stock purchase. To be be honest with you, buying 10 shares here and there feels like diversification, but your money is too small in each stock,so even if price increases, your profit will be very tiny. You won’t really feel the geowth. The best is to make each investment meaningful, not too small. Don’t put everything in one stock but also do not scatter your money too small else you won’t feel the impact of profit. So if you are starting as a beginner the amount you intend to start with will determine if you should diversify or not,we cannot tell someone starting with #5,000 to diversify, you can spend all the #5,000 on a particular company shares, then get another text time and from there begin to add units to the ones you already have.
