Have you registered your company yet? If you have not, let’s take a walk through the process.

Think of registering your company like putting your pots and pans in order before you start cooking your delicious okra soup. You need to get everything in place to run your business well.

To register your business in Nigeria, you’ll need a few basic things. Just like when you want to start selling your delicious tomatoes in the market, you need to have your goods ready, your stall set up, and your prices sorted out.

Here are the things you’ll need to register your company:

    1. Company Name: Just like Mama Ngozi needs a catchy name like “Ngozi’s Fresh Tomatoes” to attract customers, your company also needs a unique name that represents your business well.

    2. Nature of Business: You need to know what your business will be doing. Will you be selling clothes like Mr. Emeka, or offering consulting services like Aisha? Make sure you have a clear idea of what your business is about.

    3. Registered Address: Every business needs a home, just like you need a place to put your pots when you’re done cooking. Make sure you have a registered address where your business operates from.

    4. Director Details: In every successful cooking pot, there is a head chef. Make sure you have the details of the person or people who will be in charge of running the business.

    5. Share Capital: This is like knowing how many tomatoes you have to start selling. You need to decide how much money you want to start your business with.

    6. Identification: Just like you need your voter’s card or ID to enter some places in the village, you’ll need your means of identification to register your company. This could be your National ID, Driver’s License, or International Passport.

Once you have all these in place, you can go ahead and register your company. It’s like setting up your tomato stall in the market – once everything is ready, you can start selling your goods and making a profit.

Remember, registering your company is important to make sure your business is legal and recognized. Just like keeping your pots and pans clean and organized in the kitchen makes cooking easier, registering your company properly sets you up for success in your business journey. Now, go ahead and get your company registered so you can start making waves in the business world!

Yes. The ongoing SMEDAN–CAC Free Business Registration initiative is real and authentic. It is an official collaboration between the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria and the Corporate Affairs Commission to register up to 250,000 eligible nano, micro, and small businesses free of charge.
Can you get an RC number?
It depends on the type of registration:
If you register a Business Name (BN) under this scheme (which is what the free programme covers), you will not receive an RC number. Instead, you will receive a Business Name Registration Number (BN) and a CAC certificate.
RC (Registration Certificate) numbers are issued to Limited Liability Companies (Ltd), not Business Names.
So, if your goal is to obtain an RC number, this free programme is generally not for that. It is intended for Business Name registration.
    A few tips:
Apply only through the official SMEDAN portal and avoid anyone asking you to pay for the free registration.
If selected, SMEDAN will contact you with the next steps for your CAC registration

Since your name reservation is already approved, you’re now at the company incorporation stage with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Here is the exact step-by-step process to register your Limited Liability Company in Nigeria:
Step-by-Step: Register a Limited Company (After Name Reservation)
    Step 1: Prepare Required Information
    You will need:
    1. Company Details
Approved Company Name (Already done ✅)
Business activity (what your company will do)
    Company address (registered office address)
    2. Directors Information (At least 1 director)
    You’ll need:
    Full name
    Phone number
    Email
    Date of birth
    Residential address
    Occupation
Valid ID (NIN, Voters Card, Passport, or Driver’s License)
    3. Share Capital Structure
    Example:
Total Share Capital: ₦1,000,000 (standard minimum)
    Shares allocation:
    Director A — 50%
    Director B — 50%
    (Don’t worry — ₦1M doesn’t mean you must deposit ₦1M. It’s just a legal structure.)
Step 2: Fill CAC Registration Form (CAC 1.1)
    Go to CAC Portal:
Corporate Affairs Commission portal (Company Registration Portal)
    You will:
    Enter company details
    Add directors
    Add shareholders
    Enter share capital
    Step 3: Upload Required Documents
    You’ll upload:
    Director(s) ID card
    Passport photograph
Signature (can sign on paper and upload)
    Step 4: Pay Registration Fee
CAC fees depend on share capital:
    Typical cost:
    ₦1M share capital → About ₦15,000 — ₦25,000 total
    Includes:
    CAC fee
    Stamp duty
    Filing fee
    Step 5: Submit Application
    After payment:
    Submit application
    Wait for approval
    Approval timeline:
    2 — 7 working days (sometimes faster)
Step 6: Download Your Company Documents
    Once approved, you’ll receive:
    Certificate of Incorporation
    Status Report
    Memorandum & Articles of Association
Your company is now officially registered 🎉
    After Registration (Very Important)
    Immediately do these next:
    Open Corporate Bank Account
    Get Tax Identification Number (TIN)
    Register with FIRS (Tax authority)
Get company seal (optional but useful)
