The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) is indeed the new name for the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Before 2021, the institution was known as the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). However, in 2021, it went through a structural and name change to become the Nigerian Exchange Group, abbreviated as NGX. Therefore, they are essentially the same entity but with a new name and restructured framework. This change was made to reflect the broader scope of services beyond just equities trading.

In essence, NGX still remains the primary securities exchange in Nigeria where various financial instruments, such as stocks, bonds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and other securities, are traded. It serves as a platform where investors can buy and sell these financial assets issued by companies or governments.

Just like a bustling market where goods and services are exchanged, NGX is where financial assets are traded, offering Nigerians the opportunity to invest in different companies, government securities, and other investment instruments to grow their wealth over time. NGX plays a crucial role in the economy by facilitating capital formation for businesses, enabling economic growth and development.

Therefore, if you were familiar with the Nigerian Stock Exchange, you can think of NGX as the updated version of this institution, providing a platform for investors to participate in the Nigerian capital markets, grow wealth, and contribute to the country’s economic development.
