Look at them as two separate market; NGX is a market you can BUY and SELL pieces of company's shares. While; FMDQ is a market where you can buy and sell Debts, Currencies and other money market products.

In a bustling Nigerian village, just like markets all over the country, there are different sections where different goods are bought and sold – from fresh vegetables and fruits to household items and fabrics. Now, let’s dive into the world of finance by looking at the Nigerian financial marketplaces – FMDQ and NGX Exchange.

FMDQ and NGX Exchange are like two different sections within the financial market, where different financial products are traded. It’s a bit like comparing the vegetable section to the fabric section in a market.

Now, in the FMDQ market, you’ll find fixed income securities such as Treasury Bills, Bonds, and other debt securities being traded. It’s where the government, companies, and other entities go to borrow money from investors by issuing bonds and other debt instruments.

On the other hand, the NGX Exchange, formerly known as the Nigerian Stock Exchange, is where you can buy and sell shares of publicly listed companies. It’s like a section in the market where people trade ownership of companies instead of goods.

In simple terms, if you want to lend money to the government or companies and earn interest, you go to the FMDQ market. If you’re more interested in owning a piece of different companies and benefiting from their growth and profits, you go to the NGX Exchange.

So, just like in a market, where you choose which section to visit based on what you want to buy or sell, in the financial world, you choose between FMDQ and NGX Exchange depending on whether you want to invest in fixed income securities or buy shares of companies.

Remember, understanding where and how you invest your money is essential, just like Mama Ngozi carefully selects the freshest tomatoes to sell in the village market. So, take your time to learn about these markets before making any investment decisions.

NGX is the Nigerian exchange most people mean when they talk about buying and selling Nigerian company shares. It lists equities such as Nigerian companies’ stocks, as well as bonds, ETFs and other products.
    Nigerian Exchange Group +1
FMDQ, on the other hand, has a strong focus on fixed income, currencies and derivatives. Its markets include bonds, Treasury bills, commercial paper, foreign exchange and derivatives such as FGN Bond Futures and FX Futures.
    FMDQ Group +1
A simple way to remember it
Want to buy shares of Zenith Bank, GTCO, Dangote Cement, MTN Nigeria, etc.? → Think NGX.
Want to understand/trade bonds, Treasury bills, commercial paper, FX or related fixed-income products? → Think FMDQ.
One important point: FMDQ and NGX aren’t competitors where only one can exist. They serve overlapping parts of Nigeria’s broader capital/financial markets. For example, both have bond-related markets, while their primary areas of emphasis differ.
