In a bustling market like Onitsha Main Market, where Mama Ngozi sells her fresh tomatoes, imagine you are looking to invest in a business stall selling high-quality fabrics. Before committing your hard-earned money, what should you look out for in the prospectus just like examining the quality of the fabrics before purchase? It’s important to check for key details in the prospectus.

Firstly, look for information on the business itself – understand its history, operations, products, target market, and competitive advantage. This is like examining the fabric’s quality, design, and price before making a purchase. Next, check the financials – the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement are crucial, just like ensuring Mama Ngozi’s fabric supplier is reliable and transparent. Look at the company’s debt levels, profitability, and growth prospects.

Furthermore, examine the management team – understand their experience, track record, and alignment with shareholders’ interests, like ensuring Mama Ngozi’s supplier is known for delivering high-quality fabrics consistently. Consider the industry outlook and risks involved, similar to Mama Ngozi checking the weather forecast to plan her market day. Lastly, look for details on dividends, voting rights, and exit options, just like Mama Ngozi considering the terms of her fabric supply contract.

By thoroughly examining these aspects in the prospectus, just like Mama Ngozi carefully inspects the fabrics she intends to sell, you can gain a better understanding of the business you are investing in and make a more informed decision. Remember, investing is like buying fabric at the market – always do your due diligence before making a purchase!

    What a fantastic question…
This is basically the need for fundamental analysis as iking ferry would say.

Fundamental analysis includes, understanding what the company or industry does to make money, check their cash flow and operation over the years to understand if they are making profit or not.

Don’t stop there, check their debt ratio to their cash flow and how they operate because understanding the business is just same as doing the business because you don’t want to invest like a speculators.

    Understand their dividend strength.
Ask yourself while doing the perquisites.
    What is their cash flow?
Are they making money or not?
Will they still have value in year to come or not?
What is their float ratio cos it is really important you understand their float ratio for easier withdrawal of your money.

And another thing I suggest is that you buy the beginner course of stock market in fokona so that you understand the fundamental analysis needed before investing in any stock.
