    CSCS +1
CSCS = Central Securities Clearing System. This is the institution that keeps the electronic records of your shares and handles clearing and settlement of securities transactions in Nigeria.

CSCS account number is the account associated with your holdings at CSCS, while your CHN identifies you as the investor. CSCS itself sometimes displays them together as CSCS No.

    Simple example bro:
If you open an account with a Nigerian stockbroker:
    You -Stockbroker- CSCS
You place an order through your stockbroker, but when you buy shares, the shares are recorded/held electronically within the CSCS system, under your investor details/CHN.

So if a broker asks you for your “CHN/CSCS number,” they’re generally asking for the identification/account details connected to your CSCS investment account.
If you tell me the name of the broker you’re opening an account with, I can also explain exactly which number they are asking for and where you can find it.

CHN means Clearing House Number. It is a unique number used to identify an investor in the Nigerian capital market.

When dealing with a stockbroker, you may see terms such as CHN, CSCS number or CSCS account number used in connection with your securities account. CSCS itself currently refers to the identifier as “CSCS Account Number / Clearing House Number (CHN)” in some of its investor services.

The important thing is not to assume that every number given by a broker is the same thing. Your broker can confirm your exact CSCS account/CHN details.

Also, your stockbroker account and your CSCS account are related but serve different functions: you open an investment account with a stockbroker, while CSCS maintains the central securities infrastructure where your eligible holdings are recorded.

If you are unsure of your CHN, CSCS currently provides a way to retrieve it through its services, including *7270# from the registered mobile number linked to your CSCS account.
