I invested in mutual money fund, first week of this month and took some money out three days ago for another investment. Though I was told that the interest with not be up to expectation since I withdraw out of the money. I have since return back what I took out of it since yesterday but the interest is no longer adding up. The interest is still the same as before I took out part of the money. Now, how do I make my interest to start growing? Or should I redeem all the money and start a fresh investment with another bank?

Hello there! I see that you’re facing some challenges with your mutual money fund interest not growing as expected. Let’s dive into this and see how we can help you out.
Simple Explanation:
A mutual money fund is like a pot where many people put their money together to invest in different things to make more money. The interest you earn is like the extra money you get from the bank for keeping your money with them.
How It Works:
When you took some money out of your mutual money fund, it’s like taking out some tomatoes from a bowl of tomatoes. The bowl will have fewer tomatoes, so it might not grow as much as before. When you put the money back, it’s like adding more tomatoes to the bowl.
Benefits:
– Mutual money funds can help you grow your money over time.
– They are usually safe because they invest in different things to reduce risks.
– You can earn more than just keeping your money in a regular savings account.
Risks:
– If you take out money often, it can slow down how much your money grows.
– The value of the mutual money fund can go up and down, so you might not always make a profit.
Real-Life Nigerian Example:
Imagine you have a bucket of water, and you keep taking out cups of water to drink. If you don’t refill the bucket, soon there won’t be enough water left for you to drink.
Common Mistakes:
– Taking out money too often can slow down your growth.
– Expecting too much growth in a short time can lead to disappointment.
Practical Steps to Get Started:
1. Leave your money in the mutual money fund for a longer time to allow it to grow.
2. Avoid taking out money frequently if you want to see significant growth.
3. Consider discussing with a financial advisor to understand better how to manage your investments.
Short Summary:
To make your mutual money fund interest start growing again, try to leave your money in the fund for longer periods without taking it out. Patience is key when it comes to investing!
Now, here’s a question to reflect on: How can you balance the need for instant cash with the goal of long-term investment growth?

From what you’ve described, I don’t think you need to redeem all your money or move to another bank just yet. What you’re seeing is often normal with money market mutual funds.
See lessHere’s why.
When you withdrew part of your investment, the fund’s daily income started being calculated on the lower balance. After you returned the money yesterday, the fund manager would normally start calculating income on the new balance from the date the funds were received and processed, not retrospectively.
Money market funds generally earn income daily, but the interest or unit value displayed on the app may not update in real time. Some platforms update once a day, while others may take one or two business days to reflect new subscriptions or changes in value.
The growth of your investment is based on the same principle as compound interest:
So, before taking any action:
Wait 2–3 business days to see if the new deposit has been fully processed.
Check whether the amount you redeposited is showing as an approved investment rather than a pending transaction.
Review your transaction history to confirm the deposit date and value date.
Should you move to another bank?
Not because of this issue alone.
Remember that the bank is often just the distributor. The actual investment is managed by a fund manager. Moving to another bank won’t necessarily change how a money market fund accrues returns.
When should you be concerned?
Contact the fund manager or the bank if:
Your redeposit has been confirmed for several business days, but your investment balance still isn’t earning any additional return.
The redeposited amount is missing from your investment holdings.
The daily unit price or accrued income has stopped changing altogether.
Can I ask:
Which money market fund is it? (For example, Stanbic IBTC, ARM, Meristem, Cowrywise, Bamboo, Optimus by Afrinvest, etc.)
Are you looking at the “interest earned” figure or the total portfolio value? Some platforms display these differently, which can make it seem as though the interest has stopped when it hasn’t.
