What you’re seeing is most likely the difference between your purchase price (cost basis) and the current market price.
    For example:
    FIRSTHOLDCO
Your portfolio shows ₦32 → This is likely the average price at which you bought the shares.
NGX shows ₦52 → This is the current market price.
    GTCO
Your portfolio shows ₦57 → Your average purchase price.
NGX shows ₦121 → The current market price.
This is how most investment apps work:
Portfolio price = the average price you paid for your shares.
NGX price = the latest trading price on the Nigerian Exchange.
If this is the case, it means your investments have appreciated significantly:
FIRSTHOLDCO: Bought at ₦32, now trading around ₦52.
GTCO: Bought at ₦57, now trading around ₦121.
However, if your portfolio is labeling ₦32 and ₦57 as the current price, then it could be because:
The app has not updated with the latest NGX prices.
There is a delay in market data.
The app is displaying historical or adjusted prices.

The difference in the share price of the stocks in your portfolio compared to the current NGX market price can be due to various reasons. Let’s break it down to help you understand why this variation occurs:

    1. Market Dynamics: The price of stocks in the market fluctuates throughout the trading day based on supply and demand. The prices you see are the most recent trades happening between buyers and sellers.

    2. Bid and Ask Prices: When you buy or sell a stock, you are most likely transacting at the bid or ask price. The difference between these two prices can impact the price you see in your portfolio versus the current market price.

    3. Time Lag: The prices displayed in your portfolio may not update in real-time like the market prices, which are constantly changing. Hence, there might be a slight delay in reflecting the most current price.

    4. Transaction Costs: When you buy or sell stocks, there are transaction costs involved such as brokerage fees. These costs can influence the price at which you entered the transaction and could affect the overall value of your holdings.

    5. Quantity of Shares: The price difference can also be due to the number of shares you hold in your portfolio. If you have a smaller or larger quantity compared to the usual market trade size, the price may differ slightly.

    6. Market Depth: The depth of the market, which refers to the volume of buy and sell orders at different price levels, can impact the price at which your portfolio values the stocks compared to the market price.

    7. Corporate Actions: Sometimes, corporate actions like stock splits, dividends, bonus issuances, or rights offerings can affect the stock price temporarily until the market fully adjusts to these changes.

Understanding these factors can help you comprehend why the share price in your portfolio might not always match the current market price on the NGX. If you have further questions or need more clarification, feel free to ask.
