For example, the current NGX guidance says new investors using NGX Invest can complete their profile and skip the CHN/CSCS field if they are new investors.

For some IPOs, the process can also create/open the necessary CSCS arrangement through an integrated broker when you apply.

The current Jaiz public-offer guidance, for example, says applicants without an existing CSCS account can select an integrated broker and have an account opened as the application is processed.

    Public Offer
    What you’ll generally need
    BVN
    Valid bank account/payment method
    Valid identification/KYC details
An approved subscription channel or registered stockbroker
CSCS account/CHN may be obtained as part of the process, depending on the offer.

The SEC specifically advises investors to use only the officially approved receiving agents and subscription channels stated for the offer.

    What you should do next
Don’t rely solely on the SEC portal’s registrar dropdown.
If your old documents specifically show Intercontinental Bank Plc shares, gather whatever evidence you have:
    Old Intercontinental Bank share certificate
    Dividend warrants
    Previous dividend statements
    CSCS statement, if available
    Shareholder/account number
Your name exactly as it appeared when the shares were registered
    Old address and current address
    BVN
    NIN
    Bank account details
Any documentation showing the Intercontinental Bank → Access Bank transaction
Even an old dividend warrant can be very useful.

    Approach United Securities Limited directly.
This is particularly important because Access Bank’s own documents identify United Securities Limited as the registrar and provide its contact details. A recent Access Bank dividend revalidation form still directs shareholders to USL for outstanding dividend warrants/return money.

Focus on a skill or activity that people will pay you for. Examples:
    Electrical/electronics and motor-control work
    Programming or IT
    Graphic/video design
    Digital marketing
    Sales
    Skilled trades
    Freelancing/consulting
    Small businesses with repeat customers

    Create a monthly investment amount
Don’t wait until you are “rich” before investing.
For example, if you eventually earn ₦300,000/month:
    Use
    Example
    Living expenses
    ₦180,000
    Emergency savings
    ₦30,000
    Investment
    ₦60,000
    Skill/business reinvestment
    ₦30,000

    Build an emergency fund first
Before putting a large amount into investments, keep accessible savings for unexpected expenses. A common target is 3–6 months of essential expenses.

    Then invest consistently
Depending on your country, goals, risk tolerance and time horizon, investments can include things such as:
    Government securities
    Money-market funds
    Broad diversified stock/index funds
    Bonds
    Real estate
    Your own business/skills

Avoid putting all your money into one investment o, and be particularly cautious about investments promising guaranteed, extremely high returns.

To become someone with financial literacy without prior knowledge
    Master the basics Start with:
    Income and expenses
    Budgeting
    Saving
    Needs vs. wants
    Bank accounts
    Interest and compound interest
    Inflation
    Debt and loans
    Credit
    Taxes
    Insurance
Your goal is be able to explain each concept to another teenager using a simple example.

Learn how money grows Then study:
    Investing vs. saving
    Stocks and bonds
    Mutual funds and ETFs
    Diversification
    Risk and return
    Long-term investing
    Compound growth
    Retirement accounts/pensions
    Real estate
    Entrepreneurship
Don’t rush into trading. Understanding how an investment works is more important than trying to make money from it.

Learn personal finance in your own country Finance is partly universal, but laws and financial products aren’t. Learn how your country’s:
    Banking system
    Tax system
    Pension system
    Credit system
    Investment markets
    Insurance industry
    Consumer-protection rules
    work.

    Learn financial mathematics
You don’t need advanced mathematics. Become extremely comfortable with:
    Percentages
    Ratios
    Simple interest
    Compound interest
    Present/future value i.e NPV
    Inflation-adjusted returns
    Loan repayment calculations
    Basic statistics
    Risk/reward calculations
For example, understand why ₦100,000 growing at 10% annually becomes roughly ₦259,000 after 10 years rather than simply memorizing the answer.

    Read financial information
Eventually, don’t just consume financial advice. Learn to read primary information.
    Practice interpreting:
    Company annual reports
    Financial statements
    Government budgets
    Central-bank announcements
    Fund fact sheets
    Loan agreements
    Insurance policies
Learn the three basic financial statements:
Income statement..Did the business make money?
Balance sheet ..What does it own and owe?
Cash-flow statement… Where did the actual cash go?

CHN = Clearing House Number. It is a unique identification number assigned to you as an investor in Nigeria’s capital market. Think of it as your investor ID within the market.
    CSCS +1
CSCS = Central Securities Clearing System. This is the institution that keeps the electronic records of your shares and handles clearing and settlement of securities transactions in Nigeria.

CSCS account number is the account associated with your holdings at CSCS, while your CHN identifies you as the investor. CSCS itself sometimes displays them together as CSCS No.

    Simple example bro:
If you open an account with a Nigerian stockbroker:
    You -Stockbroker- CSCS
You place an order through your stockbroker, but when you buy shares, the shares are recorded/held electronically within the CSCS system, under your investor details/CHN.

So if a broker asks you for your “CHN/CSCS number,” they’re generally asking for the identification/account details connected to your CSCS investment account.
If you tell me the name of the broker you’re opening an account with, I can also explain exactly which number they are asking for and where you can find it.
